Converse College, B.FA. in Studio Art | Boston University, M.A. in Arts Education | After college, Ms. Rowland pursued fine arts not only as a passion, but as a career, taking positions as an art instructor at The Creative Discovery Museum and The Capital Hill Arts Workshop. She entered the world of art education, teaching art at Hammond Middle School and the Meritt Academy. Prior to joining BASIS Independent McLean, Ms. Rowland taught middle and high school studio art at St. Anselm’s Abbey School in D.C., where she also launched an Advanced Placement Art program in 2014. The focus on the creative thinking process that engages students to think beyond “yes” and “no” answers and develop an acceptance of new ideas in learning and teaching is what attracted her to BASIS Independent McLean. For more than 10 years, Ms. Rowland has been coaching for Nation’s Capital Swim Club of Alexandria, VA. Currently she coaches 9 year olds and under, as well as the High School Fitness program at Lee District Recreational Center. Ms. Rowland has four sisters, nine nieces and nephews, and grew up near Chattanooga, TN, on Signal Mountain. You will find her in the glass studio breaking glass on Tuesday nights, creating stained and fused glass art objects. Wednesday nights are reserved for Pilates!
